Talking It Out: Podcasts Featuring Interviews with Me

I’m delighted that I’ve been able to appear on a variety of podcasts over the past year or so. Following are brief descriptions of each appearance, with links to the relevant episodes so that you can give them a listen if you’d like.

On the As I Live and Grieve Podcast, I spoke with hosts Kathy Gleason and Stephanie Kendrick about how writing can help us cope with loss and grief. As I discussed with Kathy and Stephanie, my parents’ deaths (in fairly quick succession) plunged me into grief that made it difficult for me to move forward on a novel that I’d been working on.

In time, I sort of gave into this reality, letting the grief that had been getting in the way of my writing become the subject of short works of fiction and nonfiction. Over the months that followed, this strategy helped me cope with the emotions surrounding the deaths of my parents, allowing me to get back on track with my novel.

On the As I Live and Grieve Podcast, I offered tips for others who might want to try writing as a way of working through grief.

On the Reading and Writing Podcast, I spoke to host Jeff Rutherford about what inspired my novel I Mean You No Harm, why I was such a late bloomer in becoming a published author, how I deal–or don’t deal–with writer’s block, and much more. The interview ends with an excerpt from the audiobook of I Mean You No Harm.

On the Maria Liberati Show, the host and I discussed books I’d recommended recently for Small Press Picks, my book-review website.

On the Oh My Word! podcast, hosted by Esther Tenenbaum, I discussed how my experience as a journalist helped me as a fiction writer.

On the Beauty of Colors Podcast, hosted by Cleanne Johnson, I discussed what inspired my novels, among other topics.

On the Business Announcer podcast, I spoke about my forthcoming modern-Gothic novel, The Inhabitants; my other books; and my creative process.

On Someone You Should Know, I talked to host Stuart Sax about my writing journey, my recovery from a traumatic brain injury, and more.

On The Fiction Writer’s Podcast, I spoke with host Lana McAra about the elements of spooky novels and how I crafted The Inhabitants.

Finally, on Homespun Haints, the hosts and I discussed how the architecture of living spaces can make us feel comfortable–or haunted. The hosts also shared some fascinating insights of their own.

Going forward, I’ll keep updating this blog with any new podcasts that I appear on.

If you listen to any of the episodes that I’ve shared here, I hope you enjoy them!
